We are delighted to announce that Scottish ministers have recently agreed to drop the minimum age for Saltire Awards from 12 to 11.

The age change comes with the aim to include all secondary school pupils across Scotland.

You can read more about Saltire Awards in Shetland here.

For any volunteers between 11 and 25, we ask volunteers and organisations to continue the to use the following format to reach Saltire Awards in Shetland:

  1. Register for Saltire Awards here. (or download Form A, please do not register through www.saltireawards.scot.)
  2. Keep a timesheet of the hours spent volunteering (dowload Form B). Hours can be backdated for up to two years or to the volunteer's 11th birthday.
  3. Make sure your organisation’s details with and anyone who would like to receive Saltire reminder emails (e.g. coaches, supervisors, committee members) in your organisation are up-to-date with us at VAS (you can get in touch with us to check this) or just fill in an Organisation registration (or downoload Form C) for an update.
  4. Keep an eye out for our annual deadline reminder email. This gets sent out to all registered volunteers' home address in February (so make sure we have the right one if you've recently moved!) with a Deadline date set close to the Easter holidays and make sure to get in all necessary forms before the deadline.
  5. Make sure to get in all above forms before the deadline, including a case study for your volunteers (download Form D).

If you are an organisation in Shetland have recently taken on volunteers who qualify for Saltires or would like to chat through any queries in-depth our Youth Volunteer Development Worker is always happy to arrange a meeting or a call or even a visit to your group.
