42 Adults received the 'Willin Haands' awards for their amazing volunteering in their communities and 6 children received the 'Peerie Trows' award for their fabulous volunteering efforts. The VAS Volunteering Awards compliment the Saltire Awards for 11-25 year olds which we deliver annually.
The Awards are nomination based where anyone can nominate adults and bairns in the two categories to recieve an award for their outstanding volunteering and acts of kindness in their communities and also with volunteer involving organisations who provide services throughout the Isles. It has been great to read about all the amazing volunteering taking place the length and breadth of Shetland and sharing their stories on our Facebook page Voluntary Action Shetland Volunteering
Feedback from the Awards and sharing the posts on our Facebook page has been overwhelmingly positive for the tremendous volunteering and acts of kindness carried out by the volunteers.
The awards recognise both formal and informal volunteering and aim to highlight the importance of community-led volunteering in Shetland. Themes varied widely from lifetime commitments, the running and support of various groups, helping neighbours, sports, Redd-ups, beach cleaning and fundraising to name a few.
VAS would like to thank all who nominated and all a huge well done to all the volunteers receiving awards, well deserved.
