Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Funding – Along with the other 31 Third Sector Interface’s throughout Scotland, Voluntary Action Shetland distributed a second year of the Scottish Government Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Funding to support community activity until March 2024. Shetland’s allocation totalled £71,420.37

Outcome of the Fund: The intended outcome of the Fund is to develop a culture of mental wellbeing and prevention within local communities and across Scotland with improved awareness of how we can all stay well and help ourselves and others.

The Fund seeks to contribute to the four key areas of focus from the Mental Health Transition and Recovery Plan:

  • Promoting and supporting the conditions for good mental health and wellbeing at population level
  • Providing accessible signposting to help, advice and support
  • Providing a rapid and easily accessible response to those in distress
  • Ensuring safe, effective treatment and care of people living with mental illness

National Performance Framework: the Fund also seeks to contribute to the following national outcomes from the:

  • We are healthy and active
  • We will live in communities that are inclusive, empowered, resilient and safe
  • We tackle poverty by sharing opportunities, wealth and power more equally

Sporting Memories

To cover costs to run a weekly community club consisting or sporting reminiscence and cognitively stimulating games/low level physical activity



Shetland Bereavement Support Service

To cover the costs of specialist post suicide training for their volunteer counsellors



South End Menopause

To cover costs to deliver a peer support group for women affected by Menopause



Autism Understanding

To cover costs to support pre and post diagnostic support, training and peer support sessions



Scalloway Youth and Community Centre

To cover costs to support their Adult social club to undertake purposeful activities



Shetland Care Attendant Scheme

To cover costs of providing support to unpaid carers to provide them with a well-earned break – short breaks./overnight respite



Shetland Womens Aid

To cover costs of wellbeing interventions for clients to support recovery



Shetland Community Connections

To deliver residents of Shetlands Care homes a regular opportunity to engage once a month in supported reminiscence and storytelling with a trained facilitator



Bressay Running Club

To cover costs of volunteer expenses in supporting park run in Bressay



Whalefirth Mens Shed

To cover costs for new equipment for their Mens Shed to support group/community activity



Bressay Development Ltd

To cover costs for new equipment to make their room more multi-purpose for all the community to benefit from



Unst Partnership Ltd

To cover additional activities/transport costs for their over 60’s “Ootnaboot” Club



Win Furt

To cover costs to support community outdoor bulb, flower and tree planting in communal community areas



Purple Loft Project

To cover the costs of Art packs and expand reach of current project to the Isles and other areas



Playlist for Life

To support those affected by dementia through music



Relationship Scotland Shetland

To deliver Time to Talk peer support group sessions for 16 to 19 year olds
